Call For Session Abstracts – March 31 Due Date is Almost Here!

March 24, 2017 in Current Update

Submissions of abstracts has been brisk over the past couple of weeks…be sure to submit your abstract by the closing date of March 31, 2017 to be included for consideration at MESC 2017!

Our major tracks this year include five topics that reflect the operational steps of a system’s implementation:

  • Planning – Medicaid enterprise business needs and how to ensure they drive the technology
  • Design – Technical aspects of systems that support the Medicaid Enterprise System
  • Financing – Processes for States to secure federal matching funds and effectively procure the solutions that will meet the need
  • Project Management– Activities that occur after procurement, including the appropriate and potential roles of the State, private and public sector contractors
  • Information Management– State data analytic efforts, new tools and new approaches to help States make the best use of their systems once they’re built

We have also added three specialty tracks that are more narrowly focused:

  • Third Party Liability – Medicaid TPL business processes including accurate payments, coordination of benefits, and collection
  • HHS Interoperability – Sessions to highlight and motivate interoperability at both the business and technology level across multiple programs to improve outcomes and address the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH)
  • Training – Proposals of interest to State and Industry personnel who are new to the Medicaid Enterprise and/or the systems that support it. We are looking for topics to be presented in a workshop format with mixed State and Industry faculty. These sessions can be longer than an hour.

Finally, note that these topics are intended to be an organizing tool. If you have an idea that you are passionate about but does not neatly fall into one of the categories below, please still submit it. We encourage you to be as creative as possible in developing your session proposals!

Travel Reimbursement Programs

March 11, 2017 in Current Update

Did you know that the MESC provides reimbursement assistance for State participants to attend the conference?

We are pleased to provide three categories of assistance to assist State staff to attend the conference:

State Staff Travel Reimbursement – NEW!
The MESC Organizers want to decrease the obstacles States may face in sending employees to the Conference. We are also interested in broadening State exposure to the information presented at the Conference. Through this new program, we are committed to reimbursing the travel expenses and registration fee for one State employee per State. Preference will be given to State Personnel who have never attended the MESC, as well as for State Personnel whose responsibilities are broader than the MMIS, for example a State Chief Information Officer, Medicaid Director, or other key decision maker.

Poster Session
One State employee who presents their State poster session is eligible for travel expenses to the MESC. Each year we have approximately thirty participants access this reimbursement. Help us reach our goal of 100% participation.

  • Who is eligible? One State staff person per State who submits a Poster Session abstract and participates in the Thursday evening session.
  • What do I have to do? Attendees from State government agencies are invited to submit posters individually or as teams to highlight a relevant project that they have initiated or completed within their State. Presenters participate in engaging their colleagues from across the country in an active discussion about their project during this fun and exciting networking event. Team poster submissions may include partners from the vendor community, universities, or other nonprofit organizations. Vendors may not submit posters individually but may participate as part of a State team.
  • What costs are reimbursed? Travel costs to the MESC, hotel, registration fees and meals during times when the MESC is not offering meals.
  • How do I access this program? Follow this link for more details and to submit a poster.

90/10 HI-TECH Funding
States with eligible HI_TECH funding are eligible to submit a request for 10% of the regisration and travel costs to participate in the MESC up to a maximum amount of $1,000 per State. This opportunity provides for registration, travel, hotel and meals during times when the MESC is not offering meals.
